Our History

Old white church building, circa 1950

Church Establishment and Expansion
The East Williamson Free Methodist Church was established in 1886. By 1877 the congregation had raised enough money to construct a frame church on the corner of the lot the church still resides on.

During the late 1970s and early 1980s, the church experienced significant growth, leading to multiple renovation and expansion projects. One of the most notable developments during this time was the construction of the current sanctuary, marking a pivotal moment in the church’s history.

Fire and Renovation
In 2014 a fire destroyed 50% of the facility. The building underwent a $1 million renovation to rebuild. The newly renovated facility opened up its doors for a Grand Opening in the fall of 2018 with a new name: Grace Ridge Church.

Pandemic and Transitions
In 2020 the world entered the Covid-19 Pandemic. By year’s end, Pastor Tedd Smith retired after 16 years of service at Grace Ridge. In May of 2021 Pastor Troy Bassett was appointed to the church.

A New Season of Growth
Post-pandemic, the church began to grow again. 2021 saw the sale of the parsonage across the street on Townline Road. Capital funds from this sale allowed the church to complete some remaining renovations from the 2014 fire, including the completion of the sanctuary, a new office wing, new classrooms, and a kitchenette.

To accommodate continued growth, the church acquired an abandoned house and property to the east, providing space for a much-needed parking lot expansion. During this time, a green space was also created at the front of the church.

As God continues to direct, we pray that Grace Ridge will continue to be a light to the surrounding community, helping people take one step closer to Jesus.
